Clients from ethnic minorities
Nellie is a 58 year old Jamaican lady with Motor Neurone Disease. She uses a lightwriter, cannot speak and has difficulty swallowing. Needs someone to improve her quality of life, keep the house clean and help with personal care. Patience is essential. There is a very detailed Care Plan to be followed exactly. Involve her in the household tasks as much as possible via lightwriter. Keep a medicine& cash book.
Samuel is 22 & a fairly large man. He has had a spinal injury and needs full personal care. Will need to stand in a standing frame 2-3 times a week and will attend out-patients at the hospital for this. The community nursing service comes every other day for bowels. Samuel has limited use of his hands and arms but is able to propel his wheelchair. Mentally very able and will direct his own care.
