PRAISE FOR CARE AGENCY FROM HUNTINGDON MAN

21 May 2009

A Huntingdon based tetraplegic man has praised a Suffolk care agency for their commitment to staff training, after being invited to participate in a special training workshop.

Dr Richard Farrar, who has been wheelchair-bound since breaking his neck in a swimming pool accident in July 2000, has praised Saxmundham-based Christies Care for their dedication to staff training. As a long-term client, he was invited to participate in the latest Physical Disability workshop to offer carers advice and guidance on working with a disabled client.

Throughout the workshop he was able to offer carers advice on various aspects of care, including causes of physical disabilities, statistics, and teaching strategies associated with physical disabilities.

Speaking of the training, Dr Farrar said; “The commitment shown by the team at Christies Care to their staff training is second to none. The investment they have put into their training facilities is amazing, and I was delighted to be invited to help focus the training as it shows how they put the needs of the client first. I’ve been a client of Christies Care for seven years now and I couldn’t praise them enough for the work that they do.”

Nicola Warner, managing director, Christies Care added; “Our care assistants live in with our clients so it is vital that they are fully competent in helping those with complex needs such as physical disabilities. We would like to thank Richard for his ongoing support as his input has made a big difference to the quality of training for our carers.”

The training facilities at Christies Care’s Saxmundham headquarters were purpose built in 2007, and offer carers a modern facility complete with accommodation. Christies Care’s commitment to training has seen them develop advanced workshops in a variety of subjects including Challenging Behaviour, Dementia, Brain Injury and Stroke Awareness.
