A Live-in Home Care Trial with Christies Care

There comes a stage when a person has to consider full-time care. What should you do?

Have a live-in carer or move to a care home? You want to get the decision right, as deciding what to do about long-term care has long-term implications.

Even if you think that a care home is the answer, we suggest you try a live-in carer for four to six weeks. Why?

  • It’s very easy to set up.

  • There is absolutely no commitment.

  • It cost no more than a good care home would be anyway.

  • It may well be something that would work well in the long term, as an alternative to a care home.

Live-in Home Care Trial: John’s story

“My brother John has early onset Alzheimer’s disease. He wants to carry on living at home.

He likes being outdoors and loves running, cycling and wildlife.

However, he had got to a stage where he couldn’t look after himself, and was starting to go out and get lost. We needed to do something to keep him safe.

I did some research and three people recommended Christies Care as being very good.

So we gave it a go. We knew he needed companionship but weren’t really sure if he needed a live-in carer yet, so we decided to try it. If it didn’t work, we hadn’t lost anything.

It hasn’t been easy for any of my family, including John, to come to terms with having a stranger in John’s home, but the carers have become less of a stranger now and we hope that we will eventually settle down with one or two carers who will also be his friends.

I liaise a lot with the carers by mobile and frequent visits to John and I am impressed by the high calibre of the carers who each bring their different talents and skills to the situation.

On one occasion it became clear the relationship with a carer was not working harmoniously as far as John was concerned so we flagged this up, and it was dealt with.

So far John has been comfortable with two carers whom he described as pleasant and we are quietly confident that Christies will be able to provide long term care which John is happy with.”
