Christies Care are proud to have become a ‘Platinum Friend’ to Age UK Suffolk. The Platinum Friends scheme has been launched to celebrate Age UK Suffolk’s 70th anniversary and is in recognition of the vital support provided by businesses across the county.

Age UK Suffolk is a  local independent charity working with and for older people.

“Christies Care is pleased to become a platinum friend with Age UK Suffolk and look forward to supporting the work that they do, which is very close to our own hearts. We look forward to celebrating their 70th anniversary with them on 31st January 2019 at Wherstead Park.”

Lin Barnes, Director at Christies Care

The Platinum Friends scheme has been launched to celebrate Age UK Suffolk’s 70th anniversary and is in recognition of the vital support provided by businesses across the county.

The Platinum Friends will gain from networking events including a cocktail event on 28th November and a business networking and information conference on 31st January at Wherstead Park.  The aim of this is to inform, educate and advise partners as well as offering an excellent opportunity for businesses to work together for the benefit of the Suffolk community.

“With an ageing population, Age UK Suffolk’s services become more vital each year and the support of local business is absolutely invaluable to our survival. With the support of Christies Care and other Suffolk businesses, we hope to be around for another 70 years and beyond.”

Jo Reeder, Age UK Suffolk

The Big Knit is back!

Age UK wants you to grab your needles and help them be there for older people with no one else to turn to.

What is the Big Knit?

The Big Knit is the campaign that Age UK runs in partnership with innocent drinks where they ask you to knit little woolly hats which then go on to their smoothies. For every smoothie sold, Age UK receives 25p.

Since 2003, you’ve knitted over 7 million hats, raising more than £2.4 million for Age UK and their vital work.

This year, Age UK Suffolk has a target of creating 25,000 hats!

How to get involved

They’d love you to knit lots of lovely little hats for this year’s Big Knit and whether you’re a knitting novice or a purling pro, it couldn’t be easier.

Download the knitting patterns below, make yourself a nice cup of tea, find a comfy chair and knit away!

Hand in your hats

Once your little knitted creations are ready, post them to:

The Fundraising Team – Age UK Suffolk
14 Hillview Business Park
Old Ipswich Road, Claydon
Suffolk IP6 0AJ
Tel: 01473 298683

Or find an Age UK near you and drop your hats off there.

How does the Big Knit help?

The money they raise from the Big Knit helps them be there for older people who have no one else to turn to – so those little hats really do make a big difference!

Last year, Age UK Suffolk’s fantastic knitters created 19,540 hats which raised an incredible £4885!

Watch the video to see just how much this means to people like Jean and John.

Knitting is something that I used to do a lot and enjoy, but haven’t done for years.
Now it is going to support the elderly, and a hat will be very quick to produce, I think it is time to get the needles out again.
I hope Age UK raise lots of money for the excellent work that they do.

I ask my mother to see if she would like to comment on this post, she said she has always enjoyed knitting since she was a little girl and that skill was passed down from her mother. She has used Age UK services in the past and what they offer had been very beneficial for her. It is good to see other organisations supporting them.

I’m sorry I can’t knit (though have tried, unsuccessfully, to get the hang of it in the past). However, I do buy the Innocents drinks with the hats. And have passed them onto a niece for her dolls.

I used to knit, maybe this is the time to pick the knitting needles and wool again! This is such a great way of getting together and making positive change in our communities. Let the imagination run!
