Live-in care in Scotland

What is live-in care?

Live-in care provides you with an alternative to a residential or nursing home.

Your carer lives with you, in your home, providing round-the-clock support.

This means that you can stay in your own home, follow your own routines, keep your garden and pets and keep up with your friends and neighbours.

You can live your life just as you want – for a cost equivalent to, or lower than, many residential homes.

Registered with the Scottish Care Inspectorate

The Scottish Care Inspectorate is the national regulator for care services in Scotland.

Care services cannot operate unless they are registered with them. They inspect services and evaluate the quality of care they deliver.

They support improvement in individual services and across the care sector nationally.

Where care is not good enough, they can deal with complaints and carry out enforcement action.

Christies Carers registered with the SSSC

The Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC) are the regulator for the social service workforce in Scotland.

Their work means the people of Scotland can count on social services being provided by a trusted, skilled and confident workforce.

They protect the public by registering social service workers, setting standards for their practice, conduct, training and education and by supporting their professional development.

By doing this they increase the protection of people who use services. Where people fall below the standards of practice and conduct they can investigate and take action.

Who has live-in care?

Anybody who needs full time care and wants to live in their own home. With live-in care, you have a trained carer who lives with you; who is there for you 24 hours a day; who is there to help you to live life as you choose, in your own home.

For our elderly clients, it means that they can carry on living at home in Scotland, with their husband or wife, garden, pets and familiar circle of friends and neighbours.

For our younger clients, it means that they can go to university, have a job, go to the pub, have a family and social life, and generally live life as they want.

Clients come to Christies Care needing help with a wide range of different conditions – from dementia to a severe physical disability (either acquired or congenital). Our clients may need full personal care and help with all movement, or they may just want the companionship and reassurance of someone else being there.

You can have live-in care for as long as you like: two weeks, a month, every now and again to cover while a family carer has a break, or for ever. It is up to you.

A staggering 97 percent* of people do not want to go into a care home if they become ill or less able to cope.

Why live-in care from Christies Care?

Established in 1987, Christies Care is a family owned and run live-in care agency. Registered with the Scottish Care Inspectorate and rated outstanding by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) in England, we have grown to be one of the largest providers of 24 hour, 7 day a week care in the UK.

We have over 30 years of experience in this specialised field – providing fully trained and Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) checked live-in carers throughout the UK.

We have a team of Local Area Advisors around the UK (including Scotland) who give our clients and carers close local support. They meet our clients face-to-face, and get to know them well.

We train all our carers to be companions, as well as to carry out the usual tasks of daily living such as cooking, laundry, light housework, and helping their clients get out and about. They give as much personal care and help with mobility as is needed.

Our Bookings team perform the complex task of matching the skills, attributes, outlooks and personalities of carers to suitable clients. They know the carers and spend time talking to clients and/or their families. This gives them the knowledge and the skills to assess which carer would ‘fit’ well with each client.

You can have live-in care for as long as you like: two weeks, a month, every now and again to cover while a family carer has a break, or for ever. It is up to you.

And what does this cost?

It depends on your wants and needs, but the total cost is normally between £1,000 and £1,500 a week.
