A few weeks ago, Kristan Sutton, one of Christies Care’s carers ran a half marathon to raise money for the Alzheimer’s Society.
Dementia is a condition that many of our clients are living with. That’s why everyone at Christies is a Dementia Friend and why we love it when our office staff ( last week we held an Alzheimer’s Society Cupcake Day) and our carers go the extra mile – or 13 miles in Kristan’s case!
The Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon happened in Liverpool on May 26th 2019. The course took in a scenic view of Liverpool city centre, with music entertaining the runners along the way.
“Working alongside clients with dementia has truly opened my eyes to the devastating effects it can have.
So when the opportunity arose to do something for dementia I decided to try it and show my support.
The day started out very wet and windy but everyone was in good spirits. At the start I was very nervous as this was my first marathon but I met new people and everyone was so friendly and supportive. There were groups and singers throughout the course and lots of volunteers handing out water, Lucozade and jelly babies.
The last 3 miles were really tough and days later my legs were still very sore. I’m fine now (amazingly not even 1 blister) and I would definitely do it again.
Daft to say, but I’m proud of myself!”
Congratulations Kristan! We know you put a lot of hard work into training for this.
Kristan still needs help to reach her target, so if you can donate (either a little or a lot – every little bit helps) please go to Kristan’s JustGiving page.
