Long term Care with Christies Care

Live-in care means that you can stay in your own home, rather than being sent to a residential home. You can stay with your family, pets, garden, and familiar circle of friends and neighbours. You can do what you want, when you want.

Most of our clients have live-in carers for years, staying as independent as possible, for as long as possible.

“They help me do the things I can’t and let me do the things I can, by myself.

I need someone to drive me as I am nearly blind, but I’m certainly the one who decides where we are going and which route to take.”

Long Term Care: Mrs Broad

Mrs Broad broke her hip and subsequently became unable to walk and totally dependent on her wheelchair. At this stage, they asked Christies Care to step in to provide 24 hour live-in care. As her daughter says “She currently has two carers who know her well and with whom she has been able to build up strong personal relationships. The two carers alternate, being with her for 6 weeks at a time, providing wonderful companionship as well as professional personal care.“With Christies help, my mother has been able to maintain a good quality of life, living in her own home and enjoying the garden she developed over 30 years. Although I visit every day, I am able to continue with my career and relax in the knowledge that my mother is cared for safely by professional people sensitive to her individual needs.”

Long Term Care: Dr Farrar

In July 2000 he had a diving accident, which damaged his spinal cord to the extent that he is paralysed from the neck down.Richard has had live-in care from Christies Care since 2002 and thanks to his determination, to Cambridgeshire Social Services (who pay for his care) and greatly to the Institute of Engineering and Technology benevolent fund; he lives in an adapted bungalow in Cambridgeshire and has been able to live an independent life.

Her sons come and stay for weekends, bringing her grandchildren too.And importantly too, her family doesn’t need to worry any more. In the words of her daughter “I don’t feel sick every time the telephone rings any more. And I can go away. I have been able to have a holiday, without having to worry about mum.”

Long Term Care: Ruth

Ruth has been living with MS for the past 30 years. With the help of Christies live-in carers, Ruth now has a dignified and independent lifestyle. She has the freedom to live how she wants, with no restraints or schedules. As Lorenza, one of Ruth’s carers says, she is “a lovely lady, who still has so much to give and although her illness has taken much away from her, she still retains an incomparable sense of humour and a love for life that she lives to the full.”
